Dutch support for treatment of addicted youngsters

ORANJESTAD — In an agreement Stichting Parnassia Groep from the Netherlands promised Aruba support for treatment of young addicts. It regards the group in the age category 17-23. It’s agreed that Stichting Eliezer, one of the participating parties, will make twenty places available for fulltime relief of this target group.Also Fundacion Anti Droga Aruba (FADA), Fundacion Adopt an Addict (FAA), Fundacion Maneho di Adiccion Aruba (FMAA), and Minister of Health and Sports, Richard Visser (AVP) signed the agreement, thus promising their support.

 

 

 

The main spearhead in this document is the care given to the group of addicted youngster on Aruba. “That group of 15, 16 and 17 years is large and requires a special treatment”, said Jan van der Straten, advisor of Minister Viseer in this project. “For that reason the institutions will work together. Stichting Elizer will focus on the youngsters and the other institutions will assume the treatment of older addicts from Elizer.” It regards maximum twenty available places to admit youngsters. “We don’t know the exact number of addicted youngsters on Aruba as many of them stay with the four thick walls of the home. A study from the University of Aruba showed that in any case it regards a thousand youngsters on Aruba who are addicted to drugs or alcohol.”
